Day 67
It's the first day of school holidays. The kids are home for 2 weeks, the sun is shining and it's going to be a beautiful day!
I am writing my post so early this morning because we want to make the most of the day and I am sure to forget to write it this afternoon. I am looking forward to spending the day with my family. I am noticing the slight chill in the air of an evening and in the morning so I don't think this gorgeous weather will be around for much longer so I want to enjoy it while we still can.

A Positive Year - Day 66
Day 66
What a great day!! Not only am I still on a high from yesterday but it's the last day of the school term!
First excitement - both my girls won the prizes for their dress up costumes for school. My big girl won the senior prize and my little girl won the junior prize! They were both so excited and I have to say that I was one proud mother!!
The other positive thing was that today is the last day of the school term. I love it when I get to spend some time with my girls. They are growing up so fast so I want to make the most of spending time with them while they want me around!
I started my last day of term having coffee with a couple of friends (which is always a great way to start the day!) then after helping a friend with some stuff, we decided to jump in the car and make an impromptu trip to the DFO for a bit of retail therapy. To top it off I got an awesome dress to wear to my friend's wedding in May so that just made today even better!!
I love the days when everything just seems to go right and I am going to make the most of it!! It's almost time to pick up the girls so I think we will have a nice fun afternoon of baking!

A Positive Year - Day 65
Day 65
Well I did it!! My creations worked out!! I am so excited about it and the best part is that my girls were so happy with them and couldn't wait to get to school this morning. Elvis Presley and Elton John were a hit with their friends!
I have surprised myself in what I can do and have been given the motivation to try somthing a bit bigger next time.
This may not seem like much to some but to me it means a lot. Especially with how happy the kids were with their finished products!! It's a good day :-)

A Positive Year - Day 64
Day 64
I love a challenge!! Today I have to turn an old white karate outfit, a gold curtain and some bling into an Elvis jumpsuit for my 8 year old! I don't know where she gets it from but she always picks the most outrageous costumes!! Actually I do know how she gets it - she get's it from me!! lol
I don't know if it will work out or not but I love being creative so I am not going to give up until it is finished. I just hope the finished product turns out like the vision in my head!!
My big girl is dressing up as Elton John which is a little bit easier - and in this house we have plenty of accessories!!
All I can say is "watch this space" because if my creative geniusness is a success I am sure it will be the topic of tomorrow's positive post!

A Positive Year - Day 63
Day 63
Today I had the choice of staying at home and start painting or go out and catch up with a good friend who I don't get to see very often. Well the choice was simple - I went out with my friend of course!!
Gees it was great to see her!! Sometimes it's so hard to be able to catch up when we lead such busy lives so it's nice when we can. It has been the type of day when you go home still laughing at things that happened during the day and you seem to skip while you're walking. I love that I have such great friends. I also love the fact that even if you haven't seen each other for a while you can still sit back and relax and have a laugh.
As much as I love painting and decorating, I would still pick catching up with a friend first every time - it's a definite mood lifter :-)

A Positive Year - Day 62
Day 62
Today I prepped my first room for painting. That means tomorrow I can start painting my first room. Call me crazy but I absolutely love painting and decorating our home. I know it's a tedious job but the end result keeps me going through the tedious parts. Plus when you have the music cranked up while painting it certainly makes the time go faster!
I am the type of person who needs a creative outlet. Anyone who knows me would know that I am always starting new projects and love giving anything creative a go. At least with painting a house it gives me something for my creative outlet as well as freshening up the place at the same time.
I am looking forward to getting stuck into it!!

Aaaah it's Sunday again!! Only one week left of school until holidays and my cold is a bit better today.
To top off a nice day, the sun is still shining and there are no more election ads on tv!! It's the perfect afternoon to settle back in the yard with hubby and a glass of wine while the girls play. The rest of the world can wait until tomorrow :-)

Today is a very quiet day here today. I have caught a cold and am full of goop with a sore throat.
I am very lucky to have a patient and understanding family who have let me take it easy and try and sleep it off. So that will be my positive for today.

A Positive Year - Day 59

I love it when you are given a great opportunity that comes totally out of the blue but is exactly what you've been wanting!! This happened to me today.
Although I am not couting my chickens as yet, I am just grateful that I could be given the chance to prove myself. However I do have a great feeling about it!
I don't want to go into details in case I jinx myself but once I know I will share it with you. Regardless of the outcome I am still grateful for the opportunity.

A Positive Year - Day 58
Day 58
There's not much you can do on a wet and rainy day like today so I made the most of it. After a quick cuppa with a mate and a trip to Spotlight, for a bit of creative therapy, I decided to shoot over to the other side of town to a paint warehouse to see if I could get some paint at a decent price. Boy I was not disappointed!!
I ended up with a bargain premium paint at a discounted price because it wasn't in the pretty tin - seriously who looks at the tin anyway. Mine always ends up covered in paint!! I ended up getting what I wanted to paint the neutral walls in the house so I will be able to start tomorrow!!
Once I have gotten the boring neutral colour done then I can go onto my favourite part - picking out the feature colours I want!! I can't wait to get it all done. Not that there was anything wrong with what was here, apart from a couple of furniture and hook marks it was pretty good. I just love to give the paint a fresh coat so it's more of our home. Plus after we completely changed the outside, it's only fair we follow on with the inside.

A Positive Year - Day 57
Day 57
Today was another proud mother moment. I got to go to school this morning to watch my big girl get an award. I love how proud they are of themselves and how excited they get when they know they're going to sit up on stage in front of everyone.
I remember how it used to feel when we used to get an award at school. It is nice to see that the simple things aren't lost on my kids. With all the technology and other stuff that kids have nowadays I think it's sad they miss the simple things that we used to do. I love that my girls still love playing boardgames with us or going for a walk or just riding their skateboards and scooters and feeding the ducks in the pond at the end of the street.
Sometimes I think that life is going so fast that it's nice to stop and appreciate the simple things we liked as a kid. Especially getting up on stage in front of our friends to be given an award. It definitely brings a tear to my eye!!

A Positive Year - Day 56
Day 56
Somedays it's really hard to think up something that I consider exciting enough to write about that is positive. Instead of worrying about something exciting to write about I should be focussing on what is really important. I am fit and well and am able to write about whatever I want. What I consider exciting, others may find boring anyway. I am lucky to have time to catch up with friends, to be able to go to the movies, to play with my kids and to do stuff around the house (but I will admit that I definitely don't find house cleaning or ironing exciting at all!!)
Some weeks seem to just cruise by without much apart from the everyday going on but sometimes it's nice to cruise through the everyday and recharge, ready for the next bit of excitement!

A Positive Year - Day 55
Day 55
Today was a pretty normal boring day with the majority of it spent with me doing ironing. I am sure you're all jealous of that! lol
Although my afternoon was brightened with a call from one of my oldest (not in age but in how long I've known her) and dearest friends. I love talking to her. We always end up laughing over something! Whenever I speak to her or my other Sydney friends I do get a bit homesick, but that just makes it more exciting when I do get there.
Anyway after my fantastic phone call I was too happy to cook dinner so I settled on making a nice soup with homemade garlic bread. It was a perfect way to top off the afternoon. So a boring day ended on a positive high note :-)

A Positive Year - Day 54
Day 54
My youngest girl went to a sleepover birthday party last night. She had a ball!
We had a great time too. Not only did we have no fighting all night (because our eldest didn't have anyone to fight with) but we all got to sleep in too! My youngest doesn't seem to need much sleep and when she wakes up early she is full of beans and charged and ready to go!
I am one who likes their sleep so some mornings it's hard to get my butt out of bed!!
Young missy was in her element this morning too because her friend is also an early riser so she had someone to go crazy with at the early hours of this morning.
So we all had a positive start to the day! Even if my sleep in resulted in a headache, it is worth it for those extra couple of hours!!

A Positive Year - Day 53
Day 53
This morning the girls and I are having a quiet one at home while hubby is at work. The weather is looking a bit like rain so I can't go out and start painting again so we are having a mooching morning inside.
While are are all doing our own thing we have the music video show blaring in the background. I haven't done this since I was a teenager! I used to watch Video Hits every Saturday and Sunday morning without fail!! I loved the cheesy songs and music clips!! We have been dancing and singing around all morning and having a blast!! It certainly takes me back to my teenage years! I just hope they play some cheesy songs for this old duck soon so I can show the girls just how cool I am! lol
I love Saturdays!

A Positive Year - Day 52
Day 52
What a gorgeous sunny day!! A perfect day to catch up with some old work mates down at the waterfront for brekky. We've all moved on from where we worked together (some of us further than others) but we always make a point of catching up when we can.
The friendships I made at this place certainly made up for all the extra stress and pressure we had to deal with. If anything I think this is what helped us become such good friends. We always had each others back and we were (and are) always there for each other. Throw in a couple of dress up days and a lot of laughs and you've got a friend for life!!

A Positive Year - Day 51
Day 51
Today I had my first interview in years. I was so nervous because I didn't know what to expect and I was also excited for the same reason.
I had no idea what to wear and it didn't help that I had thrown out all my old work clothes because I thought they were boring! So after a quick trip to Target for a new outfit combined with a pair of my happy shoes I was on my way with confidence.
The interview was nothing like I had imagined it would be. It was so relaxed and easy and the lady who would be my boss and I got on really well. All in all it was a great interview. It was nice to hear that they liked me and would contact me next week about hours and locations where I would be sent to work. Now I just hope that those things fall into place and I will be a working woman again! But then if not I am grateful I am in a position that I can politely refuse and wait for something that would suit be better. Either way I survived the interview!!

A Positive Year - Day 50
Day 50
I am a bit nervous and also very excited. I have a job interview tomorrow. I haven't been to a job interview in years!! I don't even know what I need to do!
It's not a big interesting career move because I don't want to have to put the kids in care but I am also not the type who can sit at home and not do anything and there is only so long that I will have renovations to do. Luckily this job is of an evening so I can be home for the kids before and after school and on school holidays.
It's funny because I don't even remember applying for this position so it will be interesting to see if it's something that I will enjoy. So what is this job you ask? It is a merchandising position with a company that goes into stores being built or refurbished and helps set out the new stock. Now the most stimulating position for the brain but I figure at that time of night who wants to use their brain that much anyway and after stressing myself out as much as I did before, a no brainer position is exactly what I need right now!!
Anyway I don't want to jump the gun too much as I am not sure if it's what I want to be doing, I guess I will know more after the interview. But it's nice that I don't have to take it if I don't like it so there's no pressure.
I look forward to seeing what tomorrow brings!!

A Positive Year - Day 49
Day 49
Today I gave myself a day off from doing anything. I am sure you're probably thinking, "why do you need a day off when you're not working". I have to say that since I have stopped working I have been busier than I had ever though possible!!
When I was at work I made sure that on my day off that I would catch up with friends, or go to a movie or something enjoyable. Now that I am at home and renovating I have gotten into the habit of fogetting about taking a day off every now and then. All mums will know that there is no such thing as a day off from kids. We can 't call in sick or go on a holiday. I don't mind because I love being a mum but sometimes we need to remember to take some "me time" every now and then.

A Positive Year - Day 48
Day 48
I love a light breezy day like today. My windchimes are tinkling happily away in the breeze and haven't stopped all day. I love the sound they make! I know it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I have always loved the sound of windchimes. It certainly breaks the silence when everyone is back at work and school.
I am looking forward to taking a break to eat my lunch and sit outside with the windchimes in our finished yard and enjoy the view of the new garden :-) A perfect relaxing way to eat lunch!

A Positive Year - Day 47

Aaaaah Sundays! You gotta love Sunday! The ultimate lazy day of the week!
My favourite way to start a Sunday is a trip to the markets. This morning we got up early and headed out that to grab some plants and to just walk around and check out all the bargains and other interesting items. No two weeks are the same at the markets. I think that's what I love most about it. Sure, you do get some stalls that are always the same. Which can be good when you're going to get a specific thing from them. But there are always a lot of other random stalls that aren't there all the time.
I love taking the time to stroll around and really check everything out. Even though this morning was a bit overcast and there were some random showers, it was a perfect morning to go because it wasn't as packed as it usually was.
Now that we've seen everything we wanted to see at the markets it is time to relax, recharge and enjoy the rest of the day and get ready for another busy week!

A Positive Year - Day 46

It's Saturday, it's sunny and hot and after a morning of hard work we have an afternoon to relax in the pool in the sunshine. How could you feel anything but positive on a day like today!!
I love summer! I am sure I have said it more than once, but I love it that much! There's nothing like relaxing around the pool with a frozen mango margarita while watching the kids splash about in the pool.
So off I go now to enjoy the sunshine and my family! Have a great weekend! Now where's that margarita!!!

A Positive Year - Day 45
Day 45
Yesterday and today I have been lugging about dirt and rocks to build a new garden around our pool. Although it is hard work and absolutely stinking hot, I love doing it. No I haven't gone mad (not just yet anyway), I just love the feeling of accomplishment when it is finished. Whe I was younger I never thought I would be capable of doing a lot of things but I can now proudly say that I can paint houses and fences, lay turf and build gardens, along with a whole list of other things.
I want to be a good example to my girls that they can do anything they want to if they just give it a go.
The other positive thing about doing all this hard work is the glass of wine I will have at the end of the day. It always tastes better after a hard days work!!

A Positive Year - Day 44
Day 44
It's so easy to get into the habit of not being happy unless something good happens to you. I sometimes feel like people have forgotten to be happy for no other reason other than that they are healthy and have great family and friends around them.
Today I am happy. Nothing exciting or extrraordinary has happened for me to feel this way, I just feel happy and I have to say it's a great feeling!! I also find that when I am feeling this way I have so much more energy! Today I will harness that energy by shovelling dirt and rocks into our new garden. I may as well make the most of this feeling!! I just hope the neighbours don't object to my singing while I do it!

A Positive Year - Day 43
Day 43
This morning I had the pleasure of going to see my youngest girl receive an award at school. She was so excited this morning, especially since she didn't know what the award was for. She was up and dressed so early and couldn't sit still for longer than 5 minutes (well she was more hyper than usual).
I have to say that I am a shocker when it comes to see the girls achieve something nice. I am the classic proud mama who fights back the tears while watching them look all grown up! Luckily I can keep it under control so I don't embarrass them!!
The added bonus this morning for me was that my big girl also received a surprise award! The look on her face when her name was called out was priceless!! Lucky I had the camera charged and at the ready to take extra photos!
What a great way to start the day!

A Positive Year - Day 42
Day 42
Today I have done it!! After years of excuses and procrastination I have started sewing my first piece of clothing! I know to some it doesn't seem like much but I am happy to finally stop talking about something and start doing it!
God knows whether they will work out or not but who cares! I gave it a shot and I will not give up until I have finished! Also it sure beats sitting on my fat butt complaining that the weather isn't good enough for me to be doing my outside work!!
I am the type of person who can't sit still and I need a creative outlet. You never know, I could end up actually being able to make my own clothes. Think I might have to learn how to make shoes next!

A Positive Year - Day 41
Day 41
Today is a grey and rainy day. Since I can't keep painting the fence or putting the new garden in, I decided that instead of wearing my old dodgy painting/working clothes that I would be a little bit fancy and put on some nicer clothes and some happy shoes to go and do the groceries.
It's nice to be able to dress up every now and then. Especially in my special shoes. I call them my happy shoes because they are bright and fun and make me smile! Everybody has one thing that makes them feel happy or feel better when they're not at the best. My one thing is shoes. Those who know me will know that!! For anyone who might think this is a little crazy, just remember Cinderella - she is living proof that shoes can change your life!!

A Positive Year - Day 40
Day 40
Today we caught up with a friend of the family that we haven't seen in years.
I love seeing someone you haven't seen in a long time and the reaction we get when they see how big the kids are. I also love how easy the conversation flows and catching up on lots of stories.
After a relaxing lunch we dropped our friend off at the port so she could board her ship, ready for her next destination. This ship was huge!! I have never been one to want to go on a cruise but after seeing this ship is certainly made me curious as to what it would be like to go on it. The kids found it fascinating to see how big it was, it's just a shame we couldn't board to have a good look around. Well I guess this is just another thing for our bucket list :-)

A Positive Year - Day 39

What a gorgeous morning!! I love waking up and it's already warm and the sun is shining and everything is bright and sparkly. I just want to run outside and enjoy the sunshine! Who knows how many more gorgeous mornings we are going to have like this before winter arrives.

A Positive Year - Day 38
Day 38
It's nice once in a while to take a day off with your mates and go to a movie. With all of our busy schedules it is hard to find the time when we can all get together at the same time so I love to take advantage of it when we can.
Today we didn't go and see the usual chick flick, we decided to go to an action flick instead. Sometimes the mood calls for watching violence and things being blown up! And boy did we pick the perfect movie for that!!
If you haven't seen it yet, make sure you watch Safe House. Especially if you're in a destructive mood!!
I am now looking forward to the next blue moon that we can all go again :-)

A Positive Year - Day 37
Day 37
Today is day 3 of my fence painting marathon! After a morning of fence painting I decided it was time to put the brush down and take a break. Plus there were some heavy pots in my way that I forgot to ask hubby to move yesterday so I had to stop anyway.
Since I have been so good at painting lately I treated myself to an hour of ebay browsing. I absolutely looooove ebay!! What other place can you go to where there is a million different shoes and you can look for as long as you like without any annoying salespeople asking if they can help me!! Not only that, but I can shop for other items as well. Now that I can finally sew I have been checking out some awesome fabrics and patterns online that I can try to attempt to make. The options are endless!! I just hope I don't end up being sucked into the ebay vortex and never be seen again!!
Anyway my quick break from my ebay shopping is now over so I am going to go back for round two!!
